I probably haven’t mentioned it much at all on this blog but spelling errors are a pet peeve of mine – particularly when it comes to food. Restaurant signs and menus are often the main culprits when it comes to poor spelling. My husband and I will often judge a restaurant by the number of spelling errors we find in their menu, especially if they are trying to be swish and upscale. While I’m not perfect and probably have a few typos on this blog, I think that if you are going to print a sign for your business, it really should be proofread by multiple people – after all, the misspelled sign is a reflection upon the owner of the establishment.
Anyway, here is a sign I came across last week:
I don’t know what Belguin chocolates are but I’ve heard of Belgian chocolates…in fact I went to Brussels purely to do a chocolate tour.
Oh dear. Now how do you survive all the Australian abbreviations? I myself have finally given in to seeing brekky on Hungry Jack’s sign.

Hey Suzy, now Aussie abbreviations I don’t mind but blatant stupidity is what annoys the crap out of me. That’s funny about the brekky on the Hungry Jack’s sign – I found that really hilarious too when I moved here.

I find alot of chinese/korean/japanese restaurants make those kind of mistakes with their signs and menu’s. I wonder why they don’t get an english native speaker to go over it before they print it out.

OMG, I am sooo with you!! I totally agree! I have thought about being a menu consultant to those “types” of restaurants because it’s such a common problem here.

I hate it too. How many times have we seen Cappuccino spelt incorrectly…!! And what teh HELL is a Mugaccino!!!!!
Italian restaurants get it wrong too, but the funniest was “Restaurant” spelt the wrong way on major street signage in front of a chinese restaurant that I saw with you on Gouger St Michelle!!
