Hi Hiedi,

Yes, I’m a regular of Sushi Train. Love them. I went to the original one on the Gold Coast and they have a Japanese grocery store next door too that is owned by the same company as Sushi Train, it was cool to see. I always use my Sushi Train loyalty card to get points to use as money – that’s the best part!

Sorry Guy, I didn’t mean to mock the job. I found the term used for the job position more funny than the actual job. Bar Useful is sooo much better sounding. Glassy is like a busboy in a restaurant, you’re right, you are the backbone of any pub/club. I just didn’t realise that there was a separate position for that job – I always assumed that the bar staff did that as part of the job. Sorry again, no disrepect was meant.

Ok, I have been a glassy for 3 years, and you do way more than collect glasses. Most people think its an easy job. its not. Yes you collect glasses, you stock the bar, you make sure the bar has ice. you clean up when people spew, all sort of misc stuff. Im my time as a glassy t one venue, i have seen so many people come and go it aint funny. And the correct name i have found out is BAR USEFUL. yes this is a bit of a rant, but just rember when your at a night club, the reason that you have a clean glass in your hand or a fresh botle of beer, is cause of a glassy. we are the back bone of any pub/club.

Have you been to the sushi train restaurants in Adelaide? There is a chain of stores called The Sushi Train, which could be the same as the one in Perth. 3 in Adelaide Grenfell St, Central Market and Welland. Love it. They normally have ‘sample’ hot food on the train…meaning plastic and it can be embarrassing when you pick it up to eat. The other place we love is Simply Sushi on Jetty Road. Awesome places to eat.

Hey I have a couple of ass rolls……and they really are on my ass! Will have more ass rolls to show you after our Masterclass with your head in a cardboard box and an “m” in a circle printed on the corner (i.e. TV cooking class).

Great blog BTW. I love that you are just as passionate about food (both savoury and sweet) as Keng & I are and take photos of absolutely everything, including asses!

Best NY Cheesecake sounds divine. I haven’t had a good one in years. I’m a fan of decaf coffee too as I’m totally caffeine sensitive (no cups after 4pm or I can’t sleep!)

Would be hard to enjoy a last meal if you knew it was your last. That said, and assuming it’s not the more probable nursing home meal (argh), I would want the best, best, best plain New York cheesecake ever, and a heavy mug (cup) of the best decaf organic coffee with half and half cream. No sushi for me!!

Hope you don’t mind all my suggestions but your blog is so good and you are such a foodie that even though I understand and relish privacy also, I encourage you to publish your real name and a headshot photo of yourself and use this blog to promote yourself professionally.
If you can get on MasterChef or any other food TV show/contest, do it. I would love to see you cook.
I found your blog by searching for MasterChef Australia info. I am in the USA watching Season 1 2009 for the first time ever (this is Dec 2010 and I had never even heard about MC Australia before and I watch ALL the food TV reality shows, even the English versions). We Americans know nothing of the UK and Oz versions of MasterChef, I’m guessing the Celsius to Fahrenheit oven conversions would be so confusing to American home cooks that the TV producers would have to set up a call center to handle all the confused and angry phone calls, lol.
I wish you had introduced yourself to Poh and at least said you were enjoying the show and that you will mention her in your desperatelyseekingcrab blog. I think she would have enjoyed meeting a fellow obsessed foodie and you’ve got lots of useful knowledge too (I’m thinking about how long it took you to learn choc temps). From what I have heard, even the mega famous Julia Child was seen out and about at farmer’s markets in my hometown and was very accessible to everyone.

This was wonderful reading about our traditional New Year in Hawaii. We still have the crazy fireworks and make my dogs into basket cases.

I am responsible for making nishime and konbu maki… all of which is so time consuming. … and I’m not even Japanese!! So of course I buy Korean mochi instead of Japanese mochi.
