Hey did you know that in Australia when someone says "bring a plate" it's the same as a potluck party? Usually we'll say "I'm having a party, bring a plate" so you will know it's one of those. ;) sounds fun! Wish i lived near you...i love celebrating anything! I keep up with the Japanese national holidays and matsuri's like hina so i can celebrate. :)

Hi Pomai! Thanks for the long comment :)

I actually did the Kalua Pig in the oven and since I didn't know where to find Ti leaf here, I went for Banana leaves. I didn't use liquid smoke though - I had some smoked salt from Dean & Deluca and also used Alaea Salt and it tasted smoky!

I used cream cheese and mayo for the clam dip and some worcestershire sauce. But, I actually added this clam dip spice mix that I picked up in Virginia that I wanted to try. It was ok, made way too much. I served it with our version of Ruffles...but I agree, gotta have the potato chips w/ridges for clam dip!

Yeah, plenty of dishes...I was eating leftover for days! LOL. :)

What a spread! Mmmm, Baba Ghanoush and Lavosh. Good stuff!

Hey, those look some "stiff" Jello shots. lol

So Michelle, how did that BBQ Grill-roasted Kalua Pig turn out? What kind of leaves did you wrap it with? Banana? Ti Leaf? Other? None at all? Or did you do it oven-roasted style?

More importantly, which did they enjoy better, the Kalua Pig and Lomi Salmon or the BBQ ribs and baked beans? he he.

Also, what's in your clam dip? My aunt's recipe that we always use is made with softened cream cheese beat with cream (not milk or anything whimpy!), a few dashes of Worcestershire Sauce, squeezed lemon and black pepper. That's it. And you gotta' serve it with Ruffles Potato Chips. No substitutes! Broke da' mout!

I think just Kalua Pig and Lomi Salmon is enough to cap off an abreviated "Hawaiian Feast" if you will. For good measure, you could have thrown in a pot of Chicken Long Rice. Then again, there was already plenty of dishes everyone brought, so that might have been too much.

We celebrated the 4th in Hawaii Kai, where they shot off a full-on fireworks display over Maunalua Bay for the first time. It was awesome! I did a post on it.
