Hi Henry, yes, it's a bummer about the People's Wine Store. I just read an article about Simply Grape but never heard of Swam, thanks for the tip ;) The only wine I go to Costco for is Champagne, which they frankly have really good deals. Safeway's wines are very, very overpriced!

That's a bummer about The People’s Wine Store. There are a few small wine stores in town still. You should check out Simply Grape in downtown (Davis Pacific Center) or Swam in Aiea. Simply Grape is great little store in Downtown Honolulu ran by a husband and wife team. They have great selection and turn there stock over every 6 to 8 weeks. Swam is in Aiea and does a great job on hard liquor.

If you like the personal touch when shopping for wine then I suggest poeple to do what I have done and stop buying wine from Costco or Safeway! If we don't more great store will close!

Thanks Pomai. I've been to Tamura's (who have an amazing selection & who I go if I am looking for a rare, expensive import) but the ambience is...well, anyway. Fujioka's has a decent selection too but their layout is so bad and again, the ambience is...yeah.

People's Wine Shop makes you feel like you're in a friend's living room sipping wine...

Michelle, Tamura market, originally from the west side of Oahu, recently opened a location on Waialae avenue in Kaimuki.

It's called Tamura's Fine Wine & Liquors, and from what I hear, they have quite an extensive selection of the spirits.

Also, just down the street at Market City Shopping Center (also in Kaimuki) is Fujioka's Wine Times. He partnered recently with Time's Supermarket as a consultant.
